Results From Preseason Week 2

August 19, 2013 by Micheal Savoie

Are you ready for Monday Night?

On their trip to Baltimore to take on the Ravens, the Falcons played a strong 3 quarters before the Raven backups scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win the game 27-23

Matt Ryan threw for 97 yards, while Joe Flacco threw for 118 yards. One of those included a 77 yarder to Torrey Smith for a touchdown.

In Cleveland, the Brown’s QB Brandon Weeden threw two touchdown passes and a total of 117 yards in a 24-6 victory over the Detroit Lions.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Carolina Panthers 14-9 with both Michael Vick and Nick Foles looking good in their competition for the starting QB position.

The San Diego Chargers flew to Chicago for an evening with the Bears, but came away with a loss after losing the turnover battle. Final score Bears 33-Chargers 28.

The Minnesota Vikings fell to the Buffalo Bills 20-16 in Buffalo as Bill’s rookie quarterback E j Manuel played a nearly flawless 3 series to help solidify his chances of landing the starting QB job. Bill’s management reported that Manuel’s knee needed a surgical procedure, however, and that he would likely miss the balance of this preseason. Stay tuned…

In a rough game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers won 15-13, with former 49ers QB Alex Smith struggling to complete passes.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traveled to New England to face a Patriots squad that is running on all 11 cylinders as the Buccaneers offense struggled for two series before the backups came in and started moving the ball. The Patriots held on to win 25-21.

Drew Brees passed for 202 yards and a touchdown on 5 scoring drives in the first half to carry the New Orleans Saints to a 28-20 victory  over the Oakland Raiders.

Meanwhile in Arizona, the Cardinals forced 6 turnovers (5 in he first half) to defeat the Dallas Cowboys 12-7. The defense of Arizona showed great promise, and the offense showed that they could move the ball, although they settled for 4 field goals out of 5 drives… so they still have some work to do.

The Cincinnati  Bengals hosted the Tennessee Titans and treated them to a 27-19 defeat behind the great performances of rookie running back Giovani Bernard and veteran QB Andy Dalton.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ QB Blaine Gabbert played led the Jaguars on two scoring drives to New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez’ 5 scoring drives as the Jets pelted the Jags with a 37-13 win at home!

The Miami Dolphins traveled to Houston to play the Houston Texans in a game they are most likely wishing they could have over. Not only did they lose 24-17, but they lost veteran tight end Dustin Keller with a horrific knee injury.

The Green Bay Packers defeated the St Louis Rams 19-7 in a game where the touchdowns were held until the 4th quarter.

The Seattle Seahawks showed that they have improved over last year with a 40-10 defeat of the Denver Broncos. The Seahawks defense forced 3 turnovers, but the injury bug is what appears to be plaguing the Broncos after losing defensive end Derek Wolfe and right guard Louis Vasquez in Saturday night’s game.

And finally, the Indianapolis Colts beat the New York Giants 20-12 against a struggling Giants red zone offense.

In tonight’s Monday Night Football game, the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Washington DC to face the Redskins.

That’s it, you are up to date!

Buccaneers vs. Patriots–Brady Is Ready For Regular Season

August 17, 2013 by Micheal Savoie

Brady has a great time with Danny Amendola in the preseason game against the Bucs, Tebow: not so much: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000230996/Pre-Week-2-Buccaneers-vs-Patriots-highlights

What happened to the Buccaneers defensive line? They seemed to be doing well during the practices, but they were being stood up by the Patriots Offensive Line…

Tampa Bay RB Doug Martin left the game with a head injury that the team says was not a concussion. They expect Martin to return for next week’s game in Miami. Rookie RB Mike James looked great for the Buccaneers with 81 yards rushing and a long run of 16 yards, so if Martin is not ready to return next week, I am sure James will take the extra reps!

Buccaneers secondary was more solid, but still allowed 243 yards in the air. A more startling statistic, though, is the 139 yards on the ground that they allowed. With even LeGarrette Blount getting 10 yards on 3 carries, the Bucs did not seem to have their act together. But it is preseason, and they were not playing all of their starters on defense…

Are you ready for the regular season yet, Bucs fans? The Pats fans are!
