Josh Freeman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Josh Freeman May Be Right to Request His Release

Freeman finds himself being cast aside by a regime that never really seemed to want him there in the first place.Tampa Bay Buccaneers–Is Josh Freeman Getting Shafted Publicly?

Read more about this here.

Why would a team look for a veteran quarterback in the offseason, draft a third rounder after failing in free agency, and then start a vicious cycle of press leaks and character attacks on the guy they call their “starter” that would make any team think twice before selecting him?

We are wondering the same thing.

This story has gotten more and more surreal as the days pass.

The Josh Freeman Drama

Is Josh Freeman Getting Shafted Publicly? The creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio, talks about how all this got started, and the best way for the Bucs to stop this nonsense.

Watch the video here.

The Buccaneers may or may not have started this, but until it is fully aired out and communication restored among the team and coaching staff, both the Buccaneers and Josh Freeman will be suffering.

If Freeman was volunteering to take random drug tests, why couldn’t he be taking them offsite? Because of laws prohibiting the dissemination of medical information – which  Freeman’s Adderall prescription is – the person (or persons) responsible for leaking this could end up in serious trouble. So we sure don’t expect a contribution from them in the near future.

The Buccaneer soap opera continues…

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano told local reporters that he was “absolutely not” the individual who leaked confidential medical information about QB Josh Freeman.

While we try and stay editorially neutral in this story, I find that this is getting ridiculously blown into a career ending situation for Freeman, Schiano and Dominik. Misunderstandings happen. Someone sees Freeman peeing in a bottle at One Buc Place, but they don’t know the whole story. They want to feel important, so they leak the information to one of the press people who is chomping at the bit to get his or her name spread around the sports networks. Meanwhile, teammates talk about it, begin to wonder about Freeman. They don’t vote him captain, because of that doubt. The question is, did the front office help spread this? We may never know.

Buccaneers Head Coach Greg Schiano with Micheal SavoieGreg Schiano has been maligned by the sports news networks. They are looking for him to fail. We don’t know his heart, whether he is part of the problem or not; yet the stories and questions from all sides suggest that he has not done enough to help diffuse this situation. Someone on that team is leaking information to try and undermine it – until that leak is fixed, the Buccaneers may be challenging the Jacksonville Jaguars for the number one pick in the 2014 draft.

Josh Freeman Benched For Rookie Mike Glennon

September 26, 2013 by Micheal Savoie

On Wednesday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Greg Schiano announced that Mike Glennon would be the Bucs’ starting QB effective immediately. Coach Schiano told reporters that Glennon had taken all the first team practice reps on Wednesday and that he represented the best chance for the Buccaneers to win on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Mike-Glennon-in-practice_editedIt was widely conjectured that the Buccaneers were not convinced that Josh Freeman was their man when the Buccaneers drafted Mike Glennon in the 3rd round in the 2013 NFL Draft. After a rough start, it became apparent to the coaching staff that the locker room needed someone to take charge, and they decided it was a good idea to give Glennon the chance to be that someone.

Josh Freeman’s Teammates Should Vote Him Captain

September 11, 2013 by Micheal Savoie

imageOn Sunday, Josh Freeman saved the Buccaneers 5 points when he kicked the ball out of the end zone after a snap sailed passed his head while he wasn’t looking. Fans on Twitter were calling him and his center Jeremy Zuttah every name in the book, yet they should actually hear the whole story.

During that play, Freeman was looking over at Mike Williams who was supposed to be going into motion, he signaled to Williams to shorten the motion because the play clock was getting close. Guard Davin Joseph, seeing that Freeman was audibling to Williams, wanted to let center Jeremy Zuttah that Josh was changing the play, so he tapped him on the leg. The silent count plan was for guard Gabe Carimi to tap Zuttah on the leg to snap the ball. Joseph’s tap confused Zuttah and he snapped the ball before Freeman was ready.

Freeman explained this on a live broadcast on 620 WDAE, he also explained that kicking the ball out of the end zone was something that they were trained to do, to prevent a touchdown by the opposing team. He actually used his head and did his job.

I think the negativity in the media against Freeman has poisoned the players opinion of their leader. Freeman is their leader, whether they are on board or not. But when you look at how Freeman is leading his team, he does his job. I can’t say that all of the teammates are doing their jobs, especially on the offense. During the preseason, it almost looked like the offensive line were allowing sacks. If your teammates are not there to protect you in preseason, then something is not right.

In my opinion, the players should vote again, and this time include their quarterback to the team captains, because of the respect that it shows for their leader. It is not like Josh Freeman is that outspoken on the team. In fact, I think he is a little too quiet… in situations where plays are messed up, he needs to be going over the play with the player and explaining what he needs his teammate to be doing. A leader will not only be the cheerleader, but also the coach.

Josh, go ahead and take back the captaincy! If you believe you are the quarterback of a leading team in the NFC South, you owe it to your team to get in front of the players and tell them.
